The Maha Kumbh 2025, one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, is set to commence in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, on January 13. Spanning 45 days, this grand event, held every 12 years, is expected to draw millions of pilgrims. To ensure smooth management and enhance the experience for visitors, the Uttar Pradesh government is integrating state-of-the-art technologies, including AI-enabled cameras, RFID wristbands, and mobile app tracking.

Cutting-Edge Technology for Headcount and Safety

Sharing details of the preparations, UP Minister Suresh Khanna emphasized the role of advanced systems in managing the enormous influx of pilgrims. These technologies aim to improve safety, streamline crowd management, and provide real-time updates.

Key Tracking Methods

  1. AI-Enabled Cameras with Attribute-Based Search
    Specialized cameras will track pilgrims using person attribute search technology. This method enables efficient monitoring of individuals based on specific attributes, aiding in headcount and security.
  2. RFID Wristbands
    Pilgrims will be provided with RFID wristbands, enabling authorities to monitor entry and exit times through RFID readers. This system ensures better crowd flow management and data accuracy.
  3. Mobile App GPS Tracking
    A dedicated mobile application will allow GPS-based location tracking with the consent of users. This feature ensures that pilgrims can be located promptly, enhancing safety and navigation.

The government is working toward a “divine, grand, and digital” Maha Kumbh, with multiple tech-driven initiatives designed to improve the overall experience for pilgrims.

Massive Parking Facilities to Accommodate Millions

To address the parking demands of the event, the government has significantly expanded parking facilities.

  • 101 Smart Parking Zones: Equipped to accommodate up to five lakh vehicles daily.
  • 1867.04 Hectares of Parking Area: A substantial increase from the 1103.29 hectares allocated during the 2019 Kumbh Mela.
  • Integrated Command Centre: Monitors parking zones to ensure smooth operations and provide real-time updates.
