Honda has made a bold statement at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2025 by unveiling two striking 0 Series EV concept models, including an SUV and a saloon. The production-ready versions of these futuristic electric vehicles are expected to hit the U.S. market later this year, with a global launch planned for 2026. Alongside these EVs, Honda also introduced its new AI-driven ASIMO operating system, designed to power key vehicle functions, including advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and infotainment features.
New EV Platform and Ambitious Plans
Unlike the Honda Prologue, which utilizes General Motors’ Ultium platform, the 0 Series EVs are built on a new, dedicated EV platform developed entirely by Honda. These vehicles are part of Honda’s broader strategy to launch 30 electric models globally by the end of the decade, underscoring the company’s commitment to becoming a significant player in the EV market.
Powertrain and Performance
While specific powertrain details remain under wraps, Honda hinted that the 0 Series EVs will be available in both single-motor and dual-motor configurations.
- The single-motor variant is expected to deliver 241 bhp, while
- The dual-motor variant could offer a staggering 482 bhp, with optional four-wheel drive technology for enhanced performance.
Battery specifications have yet to be confirmed, but reports suggest that Honda will equip these EVs with at least a 90 kWh battery pack, offering a range of around 490 km on a single charge. Long-range versions may come with a 100 kWh battery, potentially extending the range further.
Radical Design and Futuristic Interiors
The Honda 0 Series EVs boast a radical and futuristic design, taking inspiration from Honda’s previous Space-Hub concept EV. The sleek exterior styling is characterized by clean lines, minimal overhangs, and aerodynamic elements. Inside, the vehicles feature a digitized, minimalist interior, where most controls are managed through advanced digital interfaces, emphasizing Honda’s futuristic design philosophy.
Level 3 ADAS with AI Technology
Both the SUV and saloon models will come equipped with level-3 ADAS, leveraging Honda’s advanced AI-driven safety technology. This system promises to enhance driving safety and reduce traffic collision fatalities by enabling semi-autonomous driving in certain conditions. The AI system will handle tasks such as lane-keeping, adaptive cruise control, and automated braking with high precision.
ASIMO Operating System with OTA Updates
A major highlight of the 0 Series EVs is the integration of Honda’s newly introduced ASIMO operating system. Originally unveiled in prototype form two decades ago, the updated ASIMO OS is now ready for real-world application. The AI-based system will control various vehicle functions, including the ADAS, infotainment, and climate control systems. Moreover, it supports over-the-air (OTA) updates, ensuring that the vehicles remain up-to-date with the latest software enhancements.
