India’s Bharat NCAP has unveiled the crash test results for 10 SUVs in 2024, showcasing an impressive leap in safety standards. Launched in 2023, Bharat NCAP is India’s very own vehicle assessment program, and this year, it has tested a wide array of SUVs, including ICE and electric models. Out of the 10 vehicles tested, all but one achieved five-star safety ratings, solidifying India’s progress in automotive safety.

Tata Curvv & Curvv EV: Five-Star Safety Champions
The Tata Curvv and its electric counterpart were tested together, and both models earned five-star safety ratings.
- Curvv ICE: Scored 29.50/32 for adult occupant protection and 43.66/49 for child safety.
- Curvv EV: Performed even better, scoring 30.81/32 for adult protection and 44.83/49 for child safety.
These ratings cement the Curvv and Curvv EV as top choices for safety-conscious buyers.
Tata Nexon & Nexon EV: Consistent Excellence
Both the Nexon ICE and Nexon EV retained their five-star safety ratings.
- Nexon ICE: Scored 29.41/32 (adult) and 43.83/49 (child).
- Nexon EV: Marginally higher with 29.86/32 (adult) and 44.95/49 (child).
This consistency mirrors their Global NCAP results, further validating the Nexon lineup as among the safest in India.
Tata Punch EV: A Record-Setter
The Tata Punch EV emerged as a star performer, achieving the highest score by any EV in India:
- Adult Safety: 31.46/32
- Child Safety: 45/49
With these ratings, the Punch EV underscores Tata Motors’ leadership in safety.
Mahindra Thar Roxx: A Body-on-Frame Pioneer
The Thar Roxx, the first body-on-frame SUV to secure a five-star rating, performed exceptionally well:
- Adult Safety: 31.09/32
- Child Safety: 45/49
This achievement highlights Mahindra’s commitment to safety, even for rugged off-roaders.
Mahindra XUV 3XO: Compact Yet Safe
The sub-compact Mahindra XUV 3XO scored five stars, rivaling popular models like the Tata Nexon and Hyundai Venue.
- Adult Safety: 29.36/32
- Child Safety: 43/49
It’s now one of the safest sub-compact SUVs in its segment.
Mahindra XUV400 EV: Electric Excellence
Mahindra’s XUV400 EV delivered stellar results:
- Adult Safety: 30.38/32
- Child Safety: 43/49
As the only electric SUV from Mahindra tested this year, it strengthens the company’s EV lineup.
Citroen Basalt: Four-Star Performer
The Citroen Basalt was the only SUV tested this year to miss the five-star mark:

- Child Safety: 35.90/49
Despite standard features like six airbags and ESP, it lagged behind its competitors.
Hyundai Tucson: Luxury Meets Safety
The Hyundai Tucson became the first model from Hyundai to earn a five-star rating at Bharat NCAP:
